Because traditional Chinese medicine is a complete medical system, it can treat most health conditions. What is the difference between acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine?
Acupuncture is only one of the tools used by a Chinese medicine practitioner. Traditional Chinese medicine is a complete health system incorporating herbal formulae, dietetics, tui na (Chinese body work), cupping, and self care treatments.

Does acupuncture hurt?
The insertion of Acupuncture needles causes little to no pain. Acupuncture needles are very thin, sterile and disposable. After insertion, patients often report sensations of tingling, warmth, or heaviness surrounding the needle. Many patients feel a deep sense of relaxation or increased energy after a treatment. Sometimes the therapeutic changes are not felt until hours or days after a treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is extremely safe when administered by a qualified and licensed professional. In fact, when practiced correctly, acupuncture is associated with no side effects or iatrogenic (doctor-caused) diseases. Thin, sterile needles are used and disposed of after each use so there is minimal to no risk of infection.

What should I expect during my first visit?
It is best to arrive 10-15 minutes early to your first appointment so that you can fill out the necessary paperwork before beginning your session. First visits are approximately one-and-a-half hours long and subsequent visits last approximately one hour. You may be asked to partially disrobe. In this case, towels, gowns, or other appropriate draping will be provided. If you prefer, you may bring loose fitting shorts and/or t-shirt to change into for your treatment.

What is a typical acupuncture treatment like?
Chinese medicine utilizes a variety of modalities for diagnosing and addressing illness. Every treatment begins with a thorough interview and acupuncture treatment. Other modalities such as soft tissue work, herbal recommendations, and moxibustion may be used based on the individual’s needs. Depending on the condition and goals of treatment, I also incorporate diet, exercise, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations in order to work towards optimal health and prevention of future illness.

What is a normal course of treatments?
We will discuss the recommended course of treatment at the end of your first session. The number of treatments varies depending on the condition and constitution of the patient. In general, acute conditions may take just a few treatments while chronic conditions may take longer to treat. Most patients feel some positive change after just one acupuncture treatment. Weekly treatments are generally advised although some acute cases may require 2-3 treatments a week in the beginning. Once symptoms improve, treatments can be reduced to once every other week and eventually once a month or less to maintain health and prevent reoccurrence.

Can Chinese medicine be used in conjunction with western medicine?
While Chinese medicine is a comprehensive medical system that can address many health concerns on its own, it also compliments Western medicine and other modalities of healthcare such as chiropractic care and physical therapy. I am happy to collaborate with your doctors to create a comprehensive, safe, and synergistic plan to achieve your health goals.

Is herbal medicine safe?
Chinese herbal medicine is very safe and virtually free of side effects when prescribed by a trained, board certified Chinese herbalist. Western pharmaceutical drugs are symptom specific, fast acting, and so strong that they often disrupt the body’s internal balance leading to side effects. Unlike Western drugs, Chinese herbal medicine is prescribed as a combination of herbs called a “formula.” In these formulae, each herb is specifically chosen to enhance the other's effects, counteract possible side effects, or enhance absorption by the body. Formulas can therefore have strong therapeutic effects without disrupting the body's balance or creating other health problems. Also, because Chinese Medicine diagnoses are holistic in nature, formulae can treat various symptoms simultaneously.

Finally, A Complete Vegan Omega 3 Supplement :Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids are necessary for heart health, reducing cholesterol levels, and reducing blood pressure. These fatty acids are called "essential" because the body cannot produce them itself so they must be attained through diet. Fish oils have long been advocated as a "complete" source of essential fatty acids. However, both because of the environmental impact of overfishing and the widespread presence of pollutants in our oceans, I have always felt that promoting fish oil consumption was dubious practice despite the obvious health benefits and have long been searching for a complete vegan omega 3 supplement. I have finally found it. Read More...
